Beginner Lessons

This is an excellent opportunity for the beginner to learn about horseback riding. Each lesson will be 1 ½ hours. Lessons include grooming and saddling the pony or horse and a riding lesson (horse will be on lead during the first lessons). Each level may be repeated as needed.

Skills Learned at the Beginner Level:
  • Introduction to grooming and saddling Leading horse properly
  • Proper body and hand position (equitation) at the halt, walk, and trot
  • Able to walk and trot without assistance maintaining proper distance from other horses in the arena

Pony Pals – ages 4-7
Pony Pals provides an introduction to the world of ponies for our littlest riders. Through games such as Red Light, Green Light and What Time Is It Mr. Fox?, students will learn to halt, walk, and steer with assistance.
Beginner 1 – ages 8-16
Beginner 1 students learn to halt, walk, and begin trotting (with assistance). Proper equitation and steering is introduced at the halt and walk. Students learn to post and 2 point at the walk.
Beginner 2 – ages 4-16
Beginner 2 students can begin to coordinate their posting trot and progress to trot independently for short periods of time. Beginner 2 students can start to show independent mounting and dismounting skills, can correct their equitation when reminded, and can hold and shorten reins correctly. Trotting in a 2 point position is also introduced.
Beginner 3 – ages 4-16
Beginner 3 students can groom and saddle their horse with minimal assistance. Work on trotting independently while maintaining safe spacing in the arena is emphasized. Beginner 3 students begin trotting over ground poles.
